Owners Aaron Schreurs and Johnathan Burtt started in Mr Schreurs’ backyard shed, but in two years the two soon knew they were going to need a bigger workshop. In 2009 the business partners opened the Custom Built Trailers shop in Pirongia.

“In the garage-where it all started – we would just work on request from locals, people just started asking more and more so we kept giving it a go. We originally just made Motor X and farm trailers. When the business became established we began to broaden the horizons. We started stretching out into things like covered trailers, horse trucks, camper vans, sign writing and a wide range of others.”

The two owners have been involved in share-milking, heavy transport and engineering
respectively.

“After becoming a qualified engineer I started working at another trailer company. Aaron had been share-milking and did the odd bit of solo work in his spare time under the company name CB Transporters from 2004.”

Custom Built Trailers concentrate of one-off products created to last a life time.

Upgrading is a key priority for CB Trailers Mr Burtt said. This means constant trialing of new materials on the market that might do a better job.

“So far we haven’t found anything better than the materials we use; other people have tried making trailers out of the same material but haven’t had the same sort of success.”
