Rugby World Cup volunteer ranks filling
There’s no shortage of helping hands for rugby’s big event – with media, VIP and sports presentation roles proving particularly popular.
With less than three months to go, volunteers are flooding in for the Rugby World Cup.
Recruitment in the Waikato has gone well with most roles already filled, and more than 70 per cent of volunteers needed nationwide have been found to fill approximately 5000 roles throughout the tournament.
Rugby World Cup volunteer programme manager Brendon Ward said that the response for all sorts of volunteer roles showed just how excited the country is about hosting the upcoming tournament, and also how eager people are to be a part of the event.
“Interest in volunteer roles has been fantastic with more than 17,000 people registering for the programme and about 7000 people have been interviewed nationwide,” Mr Ward said.
Volunteer role offers are currently being distributed and training for some volunteers has already started, which will consist of 10-15 hours of online orientation and role specific workshops, spread over the next three months before the tournament starts.
“Training for the volunteers starts this week with those volunteers who have accepted roles from around the country being invited progressively to commence the on-line orientation training. This is being rolled out over the next three weeks,” Mr Ward said.
Some areas of volunteer work have proven more popular than others.
“The highest number of volunteers are required in transport and spectator services. These areas have both been popular, while nationally lots of people were really interested in the VIP, media and sports presentation roles.”
