If the title doesn’t give away what this movie is about then nothing will. It is based on the memoirs of journalist Benjamin Mee who decides to listen to his heart and use money left to him by his dead wife to revive a dilapidated zoo. There are no surprises here. The animals are cute and cuddly and play a perfect role opposite their homo sapiens counterparts. Matt Damon brings his dramatic skills and action-movie good looks to a more family-friendly audience. Although slightly cloying at times, it is still likely to leave the odd tear running down the side of the face. Fans of Cameron Crowe will love the romantic elements, and there are plenty of laughs. Scarlett Johansson is as stunning as ever and Thomas Haden Church milks the laughs as the worldly-wise brother.
