One legged swimmer off to the US
Jesse Reynolds has fund-raised his way to an international swim meet.
The word “Leg-less” is written across the back of a proud young Hamilton man, who today makes his journey to Cincinnati, USA.
Competitive swimmer Jesse Reynolds, 15, who featured in a Waikato Independent story last week, raised enough funds to attend the US Disability Open, where more than 150 swimmers from around the world will compete.
Born with a rare condition, he has a prosthetic leg which he removes to swim. He will sport a new black leg with a silver fern while he is overseas.
Jesse, who is part of a Paralympian development programme, aims to beat personal bests and win a medal to increase his world ranking.
“Thanks to everyone who has helped me get to the USA or supported me through my swimming,” he said.
