Winston Peters comes to town
NZ First leader Winston Peters will take aim at political news coverage when he talks to Wintec journalism students and other guests at Media Bites today.
Wintec students will be dining in style this lunch hour as they mingle with top New Zealand journalists, and a certain political leader with some controversial views on news media.
Today’s Media Bites seminar will feature NZ First’s Winston Peters discussing news and political coverage in New Zealand, a subject about which he harbours notoriously strong feelings.
Meanwhile, journalism students will have the opportunity to chat with politicians, news presenters, authors, models and other key industry figures while enjoying a free meal at the Ferrybank Reception and Conference Centre in downtown Hamilton.
They will also be able to speak with Mr Peters after his discussion, and ask him any questions they might have regarding his media or political views.
Steve Braunias, Wintec’s Editor in Residence, and organiser of today’s event, says that he hopes students have a good time.
There will be an open bar at the Media Bites lunch, but Braunias is selective in who will be allowed to use it.
“The bar is open only to the four students who bothered to write the press release about Winston Peters [several weeks ago].”
This is the first of Wintec’s Media Bites seminars for 2012. Speakers in past years have included Paul Holmes, John Campbell, and former Wanganui Mayor Michael Laws.
