Wintec graduate wins top Canon Media Awards prize
Wintec journalism graduate Jonathan Carson is the Canon Media Awards Top Student Journalist for 2011.
Wintec graduate Jonathan Carson has been named student journalist of the year at the prestigious Canon Media Awards.
The awards are the journalism industry’s top annual recognition of outstanding work, and are judged by a panel of industry experts.
Carson graduated last year with the National Diploma in Journalism (multi-media), and won the award with a portfolio of stories he published while studying at Wintec.
Carson is working as a journalist for the Waikato Times.
Another Wintec journalism graduate, Ben Stanley, was named Canon Sports Feature Writer of the Year. Stanley works for the Sunday Star Times.
In addition, the radio industry’s award for Best New Broadcaster of the Year went to a third Wintec graduate, Mike Garvey from Media Works in Auckland.
Garvey, who was at Wintec in 2009, is now part of the Rock’’s network morning team.
