Hamilton sound technician wins Patrons Encouragement Award
Hamilton sound technician Shaun Phillips has won the Musical Theatre New Zealand Patrons Encouragement Award.
Hamilton sound technician Shaun Phillips has won the Musical Theatre New Zealand Patrons Encouragement Award.
The award is designed to encourage young people who are involved in musical theatre, whether they are part of the crew or on stage as a performer.
He won ahead of 25 other nominees, who were nominated in the 2011 year, from all over New Zealand.
Phillips said he did not know anything about the award until two weeks ago.
“I was really surprised and really honoured. There was another member of the theatre that was nominated for the last six years and never won so they decided to try with me. “
Hamilton Musikmakers nominated him and included reports from various groups Shaun has worked for.
He works as a sound technician on Riverlea Theatre musical productions and has done so for a number of years.
The last production he worked on was Wizard of Oz.
Zone Two Representative Ngaire Holmes said Shaun is an amazing sound technician and has a real gift in this field.
“He is exceptionally efficient and has gained a great knowledge particularly in the musical theatre field.”
Musical Theatre New Zealand is a non-profit organisation.
