The Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Informatics aims to patch the broken wires between business and the computer industry, training students to work in both areas.
“Informatics” describes the study of information, systems and programing which, for the new diploma, will be combined with administration skills such as strategic management and accounting.
Because industries and workplaces differ in what they need from their computer systems, the diploma, which starts in July, will be tailored to suit the employment needs of individual students.
Klaus Ritter, head of Wintec’s School of Information Technology, believes the PGDip will be extremely helpful for graduates in the ever-evolving tech job market.
“There is a world-wide demand for experts able to bridge the gap between business and IT.”
In a recent TechRepublic online article, Chief Reporter Nick Heath described the way IT jobs are changing as a result of “cloud” computing, where more and more software is being moved online.
“If you are a server, storage or network admin, there may be fewer of those dedicated skillsets needed. New jobs will spring up in their place…matching technologies to the needs of business and customers.”
Potential jobs for graduates of the PGDip in Applied Informatics include positions like IT manager, project manager and business analyst.
The new qualification will only be open to applicants who already have a business or IT qualification, or who can demonstrate experience in either area.
