Jasmine Creighton’s first visit to the Fieldays will be one to remember after she was crowned the Young Inventor of the Year.
The 12-year-old’s invention of a Pigtail Transporter was a result of a school science fair project last year and she is “very proud” of her accomplishment.
“I had to do a school science fair and it’s kind of my job at home moving cows and stuff like that.”
The transporter carries up to 40 pigtail standards and up to 4 electric fence reels and is designed to be pulled manually while making break feeding animals easier.
As a result of her achievement Jasmine was awarded with a trophy, certificate and $1000 that she said she was unsure what to do with.
Jasmine’s mother, Petra could not be happier for her daughter with the hard work and effort she had put into her project.
“It’s been a real confidence booster for her; she’s put in a lot of hours for it. It’s nice to be rewarded for it.”
Fieldays innovation committee member Tony Smith said that the judges were impressed not only with Jasmine’s invention but the background research she had added.
“What the judges liked about her, it wasn’t just the invention. She’s put in a lot of research; she’s actually looked into the potential of things overseas.
“So while she’s got the actual prototype in front of her. She has done a lot of background research, marketing kind of stuff – she’s put a lot of effort in, so that’s really cool.”
Both Jasmine and Petra are hopeful the young inventor’s creation will attract business and are excited with people taking an interest and asking for business cards.
“I got my fingers crossed hoping someone will be interested in making it for me,” Jasmine said.
