Recycled fashion in ReStyle competition on show at Founders Theatre
ReStyle’s annual event which showcases pieces made from recycled goods and waste materials will be held at Founders Theatre on September 8.
Project runway meets the world of wearable arts in ReStyle’s annual event in fashion, making waste beautiful.
The wearable arts show is coming to Founders Theatre on September 8 with its high fashion pieces made from recycled goods and waste materials.
Event co-manager Kali Pentecost said this year’s show is going to be taken to the next level.
“We have introduced a collection of vibrant categories for ReStyle contestants to enter, such as Stand Out, Wild Thang and Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend and, of course, our signature Avant Garbage,” Miss Pentecost says.
These categories create a drawing board for entrants to use waste to create garments that scream wild, that are red carpet ready, and embrace texture and design.
The twelfth annual event aims to raise awareness of waste minimisation issues, in particular the concept of reduce, reuse and recycle.
“ReStyle is an environmentally friendly show that encourages creativity and design talents.”
Siobahn Brown, ReStyle Co-Manager would love to see more designers from beyond the Waikato region this year.
“Last year we had a few designers who travelled from Taupo and even Wellington, this year we would like to see some more designers who have travelled as it certainly means that they have some great artistic passion.
“ReStyle is a platform for young designers to enhance their skills and build confidence, as well as the event being a show full of exciting and unforgettable experiences,” Miss Brown says.
Entries close on August 8 and forms are available from The Body Shop, First Credit Union, Restore, Wintec, and Centre Place or from www.restylehamilton.co.nz.
ReStyle is a not-for-profit community event organised by a charitable trust.
