Flash mobs descend on Auckland city centre
Flash mobs are to descend on Auckland CBD August 31 in support of Daffodil Day.
Dancing in the street will be the theme of the day when flash mobs hit Auckland later this month.
Flash mobs are an opportunity for people to celebrate Daffodil Day and the hope that the Cancer Society bring to people every day.
North Shore Dance Centre choreographer Angela Gainsford is hard at work with rehearsals.
“We came up with the concept probably about three months ago and we’ve been doing rehearsals on Sundays for the last month.”
The flash mobs will be appearing at various city centre locations throughout the day.
Birkenhead resident, Hilary Gilroy, is dancing in the flash mob to show her support for the charity.
“My father died when he was 45 of cancer of the liver and also I’ve had numerous other family members pass away from it. It felt like a good thing to do.”
Daffodil Day is an important event for the Cancer Society as they do not receive direct government funding.
“It is a time when we can share our message of hope with the wider community and a time when we can ask for their support. Support from the community is vital to our existence,” says Alannah Hunter, Cancer Society Auckland’s marketing and communications manager.
Volunteers will be in the city collecting donations to continue the work of the Cancer Society.
