Gas leak shuts down Hamilton CBD
Police cordoned off Hamilton CBD due to a gas leak yesterday afternoon.
Hamilton’s CBD was blocked off yesterday due to a gas leak on Worley Place.
Businesses within a 50-metre radius of the leak were evacuated.
Police vehicles initially blocked off both entrances to Ward Street and the Caro Street shared space entrance from about 4.20pm.

By 4.30 the cordon was extended to Anglesea Street closing off the road from Ward Street to Bryce Street.
Emergency services and fire crews were at the scene.
A police officer at the scene confirmed the gas leak started at 4pm and said they were closing it off to “avoid anyone doing something stupid like lighting a cigarette”.
A bystander commented that it looked
like a construction crew working on Worley Place had struck a gas main.
