Spark week marks the world premier of Wintec Media Arts students’ River City Sound Sessions, adding a local touch to the global line-up.

The programme is a pilot for what the student producers hope will turn into a regular television series featuring various Hamilton musos, showcasing the River City’s diverse musical talents.

Third year moving image students, guided by their tutor John Mandelberg, used multiple cameras to film Waikato bands Der Kranks and Heartbreak Kids, performing live onstage at Waikato University.

The filming includes interviews with band members at locations around Hamilton, along with beautifully shot recordings of their live performances, one of which can be viewed above.

Screening of River City Sound Sessions will take place in Events Room 1 at 12.15 on Tuesday August 14 during Spark week.
