Morrinsville country music singer nominated for national award
Morrinsville country music singer, Craig Adams, was nominated for the 2012 Country Music Male Artist of the Year award.
A Morrinsville Country Music Club member has been nominated for an award ahead of the 2012 National Country Music Awards presented by Kiwi Pro-Am Country Music.
Craig Adams, 39, now living in Christchurch, was nominated for the 2012 Country Music Male Artist of the Year.
Mr Adams said it was a fantastic feeling as a first time nominee.
“Anyone could nominate you for the awards. It all came down to how much public popularity you had.
“With more opportunities in New Zealand, Australia and the United States, the talent from country music clubs in this country is continuing to grow,” he said.
Although it has only been around four years since Adams started singing he said the time has gone really quick and is looking forward to being in the spotlight.
“In terms of my idols, they are many and varied from the likes of Bruce Springsteen to Willie Nelson. Most of the people I love to sing with are dead, but to be able to sing with even some of the up-and-coming talent from New Zealand like Eddie Low, who is also nominated for the award, would be great.”
After working hard the last couple of years writing original songs, Adams will be recording his tracks for his debut EP album within the next couple of months and will be touring around New Zealand after the release.
Kiwi Pro-Am Country Music president Bernie Eva said it is incredible to have a nomination from the Morrinsville Country Music club because of the diversity of the music and balance between older and younger fans.
“New Zealand has the talent but they aren’t getting the opportunities. That’s why we sponsor the Horizon award winner allowing them to perform at the biggest country music event in Australia,” Mr Eva said.
Industry professionals from around the world were among those who cast their votes in June to decide the nominees of the awards.
Special guests at this year’s awards include 2011 Horizon winner Vickie Evans, Tom Sharplin, Jenny Blackadder, Joy Adams, plus more.
The country music awards are being held at Founders Theatre on August 11 from 7.30pm onwards.
