I can die a happy man. After the mind-bending epic that was Dark Knight it would have been easy for the Dark Knight Rises to take a step back.

Instead Christopher Nolan takes what he had created in Batman Begins and Dark Knight and ramps it up further for the Dark Knight Rises.

The fight scenes between Bane and Batman are fantastic and serve as a reminder of how Batman has changed,  banishing forever the Bang! Pow! of the TV era.

This has been replaced with bone-breaking action and the caped crusader being bested by possibly the physically toughest villain ever to grace the screen.

Tom Hardy and Christian Bale have a dynamic chemistry with equally mesmerising performances by the supporting cast.

I cannot name them all for fear of running out of space, but Joseph Gordon Levitt as John Blake and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman steal almost every scene they are in.

The new trilogy has been marred with tragedy, from Heath Ledger’s death to the recent shootings in Colorado USA.

But Heath’s performance helped to drive Batman further into our mindsets and in regards to Colorado – no movie can make you kill – ever.
