Speed dating in the IT department
Local IT students and employers have been out speed dating with a difference this week.
Speed dating with a difference was on the cards for local IT students and employers this week.
Business growth centre SODA planned the “sold out” occasion to encourage E-commerce, ICT and business students to network with possible employers for internships.
Event organiser Owen Hinton, who is also SODA’s intern, said the speed dating concept is better than cold calling.
“You can build a little bit of a relationship.”
Each student had 30 seconds to sell themselves, after 30 seconds of hearing about the business.
Students were encouraged to research prospective employers beforehand.
Mary Jensen, Regional Manager of Smart Waikato said the evening was a good opportunity.
“I am impressed with people who have done their homework.”
Companies had the chance to see the level of talent coming from the area and students could see what different options they had in industry.
University of Waikato student Melissa Richards said the event was a time saver for everyone involved.
“We are all saving time, as it is all in one room. And I guess it is an opportunity to meet like-minded people.”
The event was so popular with students that SODA had to put a cap on the numbers.
