New Zealand’s Got Talent finalist turns to theatre
New Zealand’s Got Talent finalist Dane Moeke has his sights set on Australia’s Lion King production.
New Zealand’s Got Talent finalist Dane Moeke is planning to audition for Australia’s Lion King production.
Moeke, 23, is excited to attend the auditions which will be held next week in Auckland.
“I am not sure what part I will audition for, but as long as I am a singer in it, I will be happy,” said Moeke.
He has just finished performing in the musical Hairspray, which he had auditioned for before being accepted on New Zealand’s Got Talent, which screened on TV from September to December last year.
“I initially auditioned as a backing vocalist, because I auditioned for it before I was on New Zealand’s Got Talent. They ended up creating an on stage song for me for a little bit of the show, so that was awesome,” said Moeke.
Although Moeke is doing musicals and theatre productions, he is not a huge theatre person and “would love the opportunity to do a solo album”, if he had the chance.
When he was eliminated at sixth place in New Zealand’s Got Talent he was “absolutely gutted” so his friends took him to Australia.
“They are the cheapest friends you could ever get, they are stingy as, but to cheer me up they flew me to Australia to the Mariah Carey concert. They are amazing, truly amazing friends,” said Moeke.
It took him at least a month to get back into daily life after the show because of all the hype.
“Even after the show you can’t turn it off. Everywhere I go I’m constantly reminded by people coming up to me. Even just waiting to do this interview, I had people come up to me, and someone even offered me a paid gig to sing at their daughter’s 21st,” said Moeke.
“New Zealand’s Got Talent put my name out there, people know who I am now, and it gave me the confidence to deal with the good and the bad,” said Moeke.
He didn’t audition for X-Factor this year, saying he was too scared.
“People think that after being on TV that I don’t get scared at all, but that’s not true. I don’t think I could do it all over again, just because of the pressure of the show.”
The best piece of advice that Moeke would give to the contestants on X-Factor is: “Have fun with it and don’t stress out, you’re always under pressure to please everybody, make sure that the only person you are trying to please is yourself, because you will stress yourself out if you are trying to impress four million people.”
