“Spectacularly dressed adults” to take over lake
Purple Walk organisers are hoping to have over 500 women dressed in purple walking around Hamilton’s Lake Rotoroa to help raise awareness of endometriosis on Wednesday.
Celebrity chef Allyson Gofton is supporting a Hamilton Endometriosis Awareness walk to be held on Wednesday.
Endometriosis affects more than 10,000 Waikato women, the most common symptom being period pains. Most women who have endometriosis often have diagnostic delays, commonly because many women normalise the pain until it becomes overbearing.
Gofton has donated three copies of her latest book, Good Food Made Simple, as spot prizes for walkers.
The Purple Walk is a fun walk around Lake Rotoroa to help raise awareness for endometriosis.
The walk, organized by Insight Endometriosis, aims to reach thousands of Waikato women, who may be affected or who are unaware of endometriosis, its symptoms, and impact. The affliction is a leading cause of fertility problems.
“Our target is to have more than 500 spectacularly dressed adults attending, in order to raise awareness and understanding, to reduce diagnostic delays,” Insight Endometriosis managerAnnette Evans says.
Several businesses have donated items and vouchers for spot prizes and goody bags including: Whittaker’s Chocolate, Dilmah Tea, Tainui Novotel and Ibis restaurant.
Money raised by the walk will go toward support services for local women.
The walk is on Wednesday March 13 at 5.30pm starting and finishing at Lakeside Innes Common. Tickets are $10, with children under 13 free. The first 500 entrants will receive a free goody bag.
