Step right up – Tauwhare School twilight carnival
Come one, come all, to the twilight carnival at Tauwhare School this month, and enjoy a fun-filled family evening – all in aid of the finishing touches to the school pool.
The staff and students at Tauwhare School are close to achieving a 10-year goal – a fully functioning swimming pool.
Later this month they will hold a twilight fundraising carnival which they hope will cover the final costs to their new school pool.
PTA chairperson Rachel Hogarty said the school has been working hard over the last 10 years to raise enough money for the pool.
“We finally got [a pool]…but it’s not quite finished. We [still] need a pool cover, handrails, and toilets in the changing rooms.
“We are hoping that this year we will get it finished,” Hogarty said.
School principal Fiona Bradley estimates an extra $20,000 will be required to complete work on the pool.
The rural school is getting plenty of support from parents who are donating items for sale at the carnival.
Hogarty said one family even donated a weekend getaway at their beach house as a raffle prize.
There will be entertainment provided for the whole family.
Take a ride in the Flintstones car, try your luck on the mechanical bull, or even pick up a bargain at the jumble sale.
“It’s a nice way to end the week. Come to a carnival, have something to eat and have a bit of fun,” Hogarty said.
Entry into the carnival is free, but rides and activities will require tickets that start at $1. Eftpos will be available.
The twilight carnival is at Tauwhare School on Friday March 22 from 4.30-8.30pm.
