Inflatable rides took over Elliot Park in Hamilton today, keeping kids entertained and parents pleased.
It cost $3 for unlimited rides for each child.
There were five giant inflatable rides, food stalls, and music to keep everyone entertained.
“It’s cheap holiday entertainment and the queues are pretty fast,” said parent Catherine Bryant.
“It’s a good opportunity for people to get out and enjoy being in Hamilton,” said Meshweyl Macdonald.
The event is run by young people, as part of the elev8 programme for male high school students. Western Community manager Neil Tolan said the event “motivates them [the students] to make better choices and gain experience”.
This is the second year the event has been held, last year Tolan says 1000 children attended the event.
“It brings the community together and is a cheap day out,” Tolan said.
This event is special because while inflatable rides are at other events some parents cannot afford them, Tolan said.
The inflatable rides are subsidised by the Ministry of Youth Development and Lottery Grants.
The event cost $10,000 and Tolan hopes half that fee will come from people attending.
Meshweyln Macdonald said enjoyed the event. “It’s a good opportunity for people to get out and enjoy being in Hamilton,” she said.
