Exhibitor’s Peach Teats up for grabs

CEO and founder of Peach Teats talks about why his product is the best for feeding calves.

Teats are all the talk at a Fieldays stall this year.

The Stallion calf feeder stall is also home to Peach Teats, a Hunterville-based business that specialises in manufacturing what they claim to be “the most natural feeding teat” for calves on the market.

The Peach Teat attaches to feeders and is intended to work like a real cow’s teat, moving all the time as the calf is suckling. This year they are being exhibited while attached to Stallion’s range of feeders.

The latest development is threaded housing, which means that anyone with a homemade feeder can thread a Peach Teat to it.

Peach Teat CEO and founder Rob McIntyre says that the idea came about 20 years ago when teats were not taken as seriously.

“We thought we would have a teat that calves accept readily.”

He says it is different from other products because of the way the nipple is cut.

“The nipple hasn’t got a cross at the end of it, it’s just got two slits so it’s more leak resistant.”

A Karapiro dairy farmer, who wished not to be named, is looking for a new teat product for his calves. He says that the Peach Teat seems to be widely recommended.

“Cows might die or get sick if they don’t have a feed and there is nothing more annoying than that,” he said.

McIntyre admits that there were problems when the product was initially introduced to the market, but he feels they have now got it “pretty right.”

Peach Teat sells over one million teats a year worldwide.
