Chiefs and fans share victory
Chiefs supporters lined the streets of central Hamilton as the team celebrated its super rugby victory with its community.
Hundreds of Chiefs supporters brought the mana to central Hamilton to share in their team’s recent victory.
Just a few days after a nail-biting final against the Brumbies, the Chiefs rolled down the main street as 2013 super rugby champions, to cheers, cowbells, and a revving chainsaw.
Fans of all ages donned Chiefs colours and came to support the local heroes, and the Chiefs said those fans were what it was all about.
When the parade reached Garden Place the crowd drew in and many trained cellphones and cameras on the team and trophy.
“We play for each other, we play for our family, we play for our fans,” said co-captain Liam Messam.
“You guys are the best.”
Co-captain Craig Clarke agreed, and said the turnout at the parade had made the day special for the team.
Departing winger Lelia Masaga went one further and said last Saturday’s crowd was so good that it contributed to the win.
“I do think that when I score a try it’s because of you guys.”
Mayor Julie Hardaker congratulated the Chiefs on an outstanding victory, but also for the way they were part of the community.
To recognise this, the players, managers, and coaches were presented with an outstanding achiever Hamilton medal.
