Hamilton business destroys printer for cancer charity
A Hamilton business is going to destroy the annoying office printer to raise money for Relay for Life.
A Hamilton engineering firm is raising money for a cancer charity by auctioning off the destruction of a pesky office printer.
Modern Transport Engineers (MTE) has listed the printer on Trademe after the printer began misbehaving and causing a racket after only six months at the office.
The winner of the auction will get to choose how the printer meets its end.
The options available to the lucky winner are to have the recalcitrant printer: crushed by an excavator; cut in half by a brake press; trampled by a large dump truck; flattened by a roller; or thrown off a bridge.
MTE web designer Caleb Hoolihan came up with the idea to destroy the machine one day after yet another failed printing experience.
“The roller on it smashes in to the side of the printer when you try to use it. It’s loud, it’s annoying and it doesn’t print,” he said.
The funds raised from the auction will be donated to Relay for Life.
Director Colleen Ratcliffe is part of a team that helps fundraise for the Relay for Life event.
The company wanted the money to go towards something that would make a difference. “This is something we all strongly support,” Colleen said.
The printer’s fate will be decided on September 12 when the auction closes.
The top bidder will receive video evidence of the “carnage”.
