Make Garden Place more welcoming says Dave Mac
Dave Macpherson wants to see improvements made to Garden Place for the young people of the city.
West Ward candidate Dave Macpherson wants to create more spaces for young people in Hamilton, and has a few ideas on his mind to do just that.
He hopes to see a park created in Garden Place, and another skate park somewhere in Hamilton.
He asked the public their thoughts on this plan through his Facebook page – and got mixed reviews.
Alec Cherrington said, “Agree…Didn’t there use to be swings there a couple of years ago? A summertime splash pool wouldn’t go amiss either.”
Macpherson said the Hamilton City Council had a plan up until three years ago for a new skate park in the Hamilton East or Rototuna, which has since gone out the window.
“We are a big city and kids in all parts of it need recreational facilities. It is a great way for keeping kids active, fit, outdoors and off the streets,” Macpherson said.
He also wants to see improvements made to Garden Place, and aims to get families and kids using the area more.
“The more people using Garden Place, the safer it will become, and the more shops and activities will be attracted to that part of the city,” he said.
Although, not all Hamiltonions agree with Macpherson’s plans. Dave Jones wants to see Macpherson retire instead.
Macpherson did not seem afraid to create a discussion with Jones, and was happy to attack other council candidates in the meantime.
“Always good to see a namesake and admirer. There’s still a lot of good work to be done in council and someone has to stand up to the Mayor and the ‘New Council, No Direction’ candidates. It’s a tough job but there’s a lot further to go,” Macpherson said.
He even went the step further to send Jones a PS message which read, “Take off those dark glasses, so we can see who is hiding behind them! Or you could go back to your locker….”
