Leah Carroll, 29, is a singer-songwriter whose pop songs speak about love, people and “anything else I’m thinking about”.

Originally from Tauranga, Carroll  lives in Hamilton while studying a Graduate Diploma of Communication (Professional Writing).

It will be her first time at Fringe and she will be joined on stage by boyfriend Matt Smith.

“Fringe is all about creative expression, the Hamilton one is all about helping local artists. It’s about originality,” Carroll says.

Earlier this year she performed on the Village Stage at the Parachute Music Festival at Mystery Creek.

Carroll has also had some international success with her  UK Songwriting Contest entries.

“People associated with it include Simon Cowell – he has signed a few people from it. I entered the pop category in 2009 and 2011.

“My song that I entered both years got into the semi-finals.”

She has been singing for as long as she can remember and writing songs since 15.

“I was forced to write a song at school and I hated every minute of it – now I love it.”

Leah will be performing on Friday and Saturday night  October 4-5 starting at 7pm at Biddy Mulligan’s Irish Pub on Victoria Street.
