Ratepayer calls for electronic voting
Bring on electronic voting for local government elections, says ratepayer
A young Glenview mother wants council electoral officials to get with the times and allow electronic voting.
Despite an interest in the campaign Samantha Stockdale lost her voting papers and did not know how to replace them.
She says voting papers are an inconvenient way of putting political choices forward and would prefer an electronic method or polling booths .
“A lot of people are on the computer,” she said.
She also thought it would be better to copy the general election days which involve family friendly events around the country.
In a previous Waikato Independent’s report Stockdale wanted more playgrounds in Glenview.
The young mother was eager to learn about the city’s candidates but she said she did not see many election signs because of vandalism in her suburb.
“I didn’t really see any signs advertised,” she said.
Although she did not know many of the councillors, she became more aware of the city’s issues.
Stockdale said she became more aware and opinionated on Hamilton’s issues such as fluoride.
