Fashion students strut their stuff
Wintec fashion students used the fourth level of the institution’s car park to parade their creations this year.
The Wintec car park building played host to a smorgasbord of creativity and design, courtesy of Wintec fashion students, last week.
First and second-year fashion students, along with graduates, displayed months of hard work last night at the event hosted by The Edge.
The first-year students showcased designs spanning from masculine to feminine, structured to free-flowing, and everything in-between.
Wintec alumnae Mitchell Vincent and Grant Davy stole the show with their collections, displaying the creative edge they developed while at Wintec. Their use of bold colors and impeccable tailoring left the audience in awe and wanting more.
And more is what they got. The second-year students showed their creative talent with an array of breath-taking pieces. Each collection showed evidence of the hard work involved in creating each look.
A favourite among the audience was Georgia Cairns’ Final Remedy collection which consisted of flowing, pastel materials infused with a hint of sparkle which gave a fun and feminine feel. Georgia also walked away with the coveted Waikato Times Most Promising Year Two Student Award for her work and was applauded by the judges as being “a clear winner”.
Samantha Jakes Odile was also a crowd favourite, especially with her show stopping shear maxi dress. Blogger and volunteer for the night, Jess Molina, said Samantha was her favourite and was rooting for her to be in the finals.
