A night at the museum
When at the museum, do as the Romans do. That could be the rule at Waikato Museum on Thursday night.
Families will be able to see history coming to life on Thursday at the Waikato Museum.
The doors will stay opened after dark as part of the Roman Late Night series, run by the museum one night each month during the Roman Machine exhibition.
The Imperial Romans of New Zealand will take to the gallery wearing authentic clothing and talking about life and war in Rome.
The event, which is run by the museum, will show a glimpse of what war life was like during the Roman Empire.
Along with the legionaries, the museum will also screen feature film Asterix at the Olympic Games and host a lecture from Professor Robert Hannah, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Waikato University.
“There are lots of cool, exciting, and fun things happening.” said public programmes assistant Nicole Thorburn, who co-organised the event.
Interest has been growing since the first Roman Late Nights, which was held last month.
Maggie Belle, who visited the museum over the weekend, is looking forward to bringing her family to the event.
“We were going to just bring our grandchildren, but then our son heard about it and decided he was going to come along also. So we are three generations heading to see the Romans,” said Belle.
The event will run from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday night, with tickets being sold on the night, no pre-booking required.
