Two-dollar sale does business for Dress for Success

A two dollar sale at Wintec’s city campus has raised $1000 for Dress for Success.

Event room two was filled with jackets, winter coats, tops, shoes, and accessories in the sale on Tuesday morning. All items were being sold for $2 or $20 for a filled shopping bag.

The non-profit organisation helps disadvantaged women put CVs together, gives career advice and also finds them the right outfit for a job interview.

“We have some volunteer stylists that will put the outfit together depending on what job you are going for,” said K-M Adams, executive manager of Dress for Success in Hamilton.

The stylists dress women for the interview from bras to shoes and the woman keeps the outfit.

Adams said if a woman gets the job they can come back to the Dress for Success office and be supplied with a “capsule wardrobe” – a week’s worth of clothing.

Nita Carter, Wintec’s marketing manager, said: “I believe in their mission to get people into jobs and women to feel confident.”

Adams said that those walking into an interview are being judged in about five to 30 seconds, and stylists take away any discrimination by dressing women nicely.

The sale raised $1000 in four hours, and the next one may be held at Wintec in October this year.
