Bachelors have a ‘speedy’ day
Love is in the air after bachelors’ speed-dating
Eight young bachelors gathered at the Village Green at Fieldays this morning for the official opening of the Bachelor of the Year competition 2014.
The rural blokes started off quite shy but gradually built their confidence, fronting up to the camera as media swamped them.
“Having a camera shoved in your face is never really a lot of fun. It gets the nerves going a wee bit,” bachelor Brett Steeghs said.
The lads will compete in heats over the next four days. Bachelor Thomas Denham from Harihari took out the first challenge – a dance competition shown on live TV.
The competition is hosted by Blair Dowling from radio station ‘The Hits’.
On Monday the bachelors were taken to a mystery location and had to find their way to Mystery Creek as part of the Amazing Style Race.
The bachelors had pit stops in Thames, Whitianga, Waihi, Mt Maunganui and Rotorua.
Last night they slept in campervans on site amidst the bad weather.
The rain stayed away for the first heat this morning as the men took part in a speed-fencing competition.
Two rounds were fought as bachelors Jeff Peek from Morrinsville and Josh Gilbert from NSW, Australia, took out first and second respectively.
“It was bloody good fun,” Peek said.
In the next challenge the men were faced with a speed-dating competition, where the blokes had 40 seconds to speed date females in face-to-face chats. It was smiles all round as the boys exchanged cell phone numbers with the girls.
“This is like love everywhere. We could walk away and they could be here all afternoon,” Dowling said.
