Bad weather, it’s not over yet experts say
The clouds may be breaking, but do not throw away those umbrellas yet.
After a storm which saw trees down and power out across much of the Waikato, the clouds have broken over the 2014 Fieldays.
But weather analysts are warning attendants not to throw their umbrella away just yet.
NIWA Forecaster Chris Brandolino said the respite is only temporary.
“We still have a real threat of showers today and there might be stronger wind this afternoon.”
Showers are expected tomorrow with the weather clearing by Friday.
Power cuts this morning left vendors without access to eftpos facilities.
Sonia Marshall from Circle M Workwear said it almost cost her a sale.
“The power fluctuated on and off while we were trying to sell to a young man,” she said. “Luckily, he had cash on him.”
Volunteer staff were working through the conditions this morning ahead of the official opening.
Volunteers co-ordinator Lance Enevoldsen tweeted “very wet and windy but everyone is pitching in with smiles.”
