Two lifeguards who are to marry on a beach they have patrolled for years, have used Facebook to invite well-known band Shapeshifter to join them.

In the hopes of New Zealand band Shapeshifter seeing their plea, Haley Seymour posted a Facebook  letter to band members, P Digsss, Devin, Sam, Nick and Darren.

Haley wrote “I have the most important walk of my life coming up and it would be an honour to walk down the aisle while you and your boys played – we would [love] it if you could come and share your love with the people we love.”

Haley and partner Bruce Simpson marry next month on the West Coast’s Bethells Beach,  where they have been life guards for more than 12 years.

“Not a summer went by without seeing you, summer after summer my fiancé Bruce and I, with our surf club family,, would mission from beach to beach guarding long days and our summer nights were about your music. The freedom of finishing a surf comp and driving in convoy to places like Matakana to see you boys, pure soul – summer how it should be,” Haley says.

The couple have been together five  years and Shapeshifters music has been their anthem, the couple explain.

“I feel that our lives so far can be summed up by your music. It is such an important part of our life – it’s the very air we breathe. Hold it deep inside – makes us feel [alive]. Sometimes, music creates avenues for us to explore our feelings and to voice out whatever internal pains we may have. Twin galaxies is very dear to our hearts, thank you for this gift.”

Haley’s passion for the band’s music crosses over to her personal triumphs. In 2014 she decided to fight for charity and compete in the Netbrawlers.

She says that it was for a personal challenge as well as being a voice for youth suicide.

Haley says the band’s music helped her get through the charity fight – “As I nervously walked out from the tunnel and through the crowd, my walkout song came on – Dutchies! It helped me find the strength to shake [off] my nerves and focus on being in the moment. To remind myself – I’ve got this.

“It would be the icing on the cake if Shapeshifter were to read our letter. Their music fills our soul and has been a huge part of our life. Even more so when Bruce and I met. We have been through some struggles – these struggles have built our character and made us a solid team.”
