An Otorohanga farmer’s invention is about to hit the market – five years after it won first prize at Fieldays.
Maxi-Trak Quatro, the system used to tow heavy implements by transferring the force to the front of tractors, and thereby adding weight to the wheels, is ready to be launched.
The product, conceived by Kalvin Singh of Otorohanga, won the Golden Standard Award for Invention of the Year at Fieldays in 2010.
Singh says the product launch is just months away. “What we are trying to do at this stage is to find interested people. I can probably manufacture the product for the New Zealand market myself.
“But we’re looking for someone on the world scale. We have tractor manufacturers who are showing lots of interest, and who have been there [in the market] for a long time. They are waiting for us to secure the patents, and get it to a product they can safely look at. We’re at the negotiation stage with the tractor companies, and machinery manufacturers.”
Maxi-Trak Quatro is one of the products that will be part of the inaugural Innovation Accelerator event at Fieldays this year.
Singh says being part of the event will be good for them. “We were invited there, and it’s not something we organised ourselves, but we find that it could be helpful for us to get overseas visitors that come to the Fieldays. It’s probably a very good place for them to see it.”
The products exhibited at the Innovation Accelerator will be a one-off opportunity for everyone involved. Beyond this, the innovators will have to exhibit in the main stands of Fieldays.
Singh says the product is ready for the global audience. “We’re ready to embark on overseas exhibitor shows. But, we want to start from New Zealand, as this is where it all started.
“From here on to end of the year, we will be exhibiting at shows around the globe.”
