Spark International Festival of Media, Arts and Design is set to inspire Hamilton crowds this August.

Hosted by Wintec’s city campus, the festival will see over 30 guest speakers hosting presentations and workshops in its 17th year.

First-time festival director Wendy Richdale said has been overwhelmed by the willingness to participate of people asked to be speakers.

“It’s a really full programme this year – it’s not possible [for someone] to do everything,” Richdale said.

Richdale said the presentations are likely to be an hour long, with time for questions and answers afterward.

“This year, we’re going to, hopefully, have a twitter feed running through so people can ask their questions,” she said.

Workshops are also being held during the event to give people the chance to work on their trade with a professional.

Throughout the week, a number of competitions will be run, with many based on the use of the hashtags #shareinspirecreate and #spark15 on social media.

Spark public relations intern Olivia Mead said the hard work going on behind the scene is making her more excited for this year’s festival.

“This year I’m most looking forward to Dylan Horrocks coming. He’s a graphic novelist based in Auckland and just the fact that he’s a story teller who tells stories through images and words together. I’m a storyteller myself so going to his workshop is going to be really helpful for me.”
