Dozens of Hamiltonians swung by PETstock The Base this weekend for Paws 4 Life’s Massive Adoption Day.
More than 40 cats and kittens accompanied by volunteers working for the charity were brought to the pet store to find a loving home.
And 22 cats and kittens were adopted on the day, according to Paws 4 Life’s Rachael Maher.
“Some adults had been with us for a long time so this was an especially great day for them.”
The Glenview-based charity works to rehome surrendered or neglected animals, and have rescued nearly 3000 animals since 2010.
This adoption drive was held on the mezzanine floor of PETstock with a line of families completing paperwork to take their new family member home.
Each cat had a small bio about their personality, what kind of home they would suit, their age, and whether they would tolerate other pets.
“I came along just to have a look but all these gorgeous cats are seriously making me consider adopting,” Anna Jackson said.
There were several short-haired domestic tabbies and even a few purebred show cats; all coming into the care of Paws 4 Life in need of a forever home.
Eight-year-old Cookie, a black and white “tuxedo” female, was described as a “cuddly fatty” that would be “absolutely perfect for an older couple” due to her laid-back nature.
Sassy four-year-old Cleo was a “much-loved family pet” whose owner surrendered her after a break-up.
Basil the imported Ragdoll was formerly a stud cat owned by a breeder but was described as a “total goofball who loves to cuddle”.
All cats and kittens being rehomed by Paws 4 Life are desexed, microchipped and checked by a vet for health conditions.
Paws 4 Life regularly hold adoption days for their animals, often posting about animals available on their Facebook page Paws 4 Life.
“Sadly, the need for kittens and cats need to come into care never has a day off, so it was so great to have so many adoptions as this creates room for more homeless souls to come in and get the care they so deserve,” Rachael said.
