Stop for the sights, stay for the coffee – Hamilton Lake
Hamilton lake is a true place of beauty, lets discuss what it has to offer!
The Hamilton Lake has been a spot of beauty and relaxation for the Waikato since at least the 19th century. In today’s modern society, it has become a quintessential visitors spot with all it has to offer.
From a children’s playground, to a walking path fit for anyone willing to trek it, and a superb café that offers a delightful treat to all who visit, Hamilton’s largest still body of water is well worth a few hours of your time. Hundreds of visitors stop by daily and it provides an excellent spectacle if you’re visiting from another town or even another country!
The lake’s official name is Lake Rotoroa. It is believed the lake was formed 20,000 years ago, through underground water sources. Rotoroa means “Long Lake” when translated to English, and it’s rather fitting. The lake’s thin and lengthy nature is certainly interesting to view from above, which you can do when you book a scenic helicopter tour with Helicorp.
There are also plenty of options for keeping yourself occupied, just be sure to park next to the Café so you can pick up a coffee on your way out – not that you’ll want to leave though! There’s also the community parkrun event to take part in if you’re up for it. The run around the lake kicks off every Saturday at 8am sharp!
Stephen Kirk often comes to the lake on weekends to sail his remote control boat and enjoy the peace that comes with it.
“I’ve been coming here for about three years now, and I have no plans to stop. It truly is an experience to be here when the weather is prime, which is just what I need whenever I knock off from my work.”
So, if you’re ever feeling the need to see some sights and try something new, one of your first stops should be Lake Rotoroa in Hamilton. It is an excellent example of substance and spectacle if you are keen to tour New Zealand or are just looking for something to occupy yourself with when you’re in the area.
