Colouring their world

Clients haven’t been able to come to her – so salon owner Kristy Butler has countered lockdown by mixing hair dye kits to send to them.
Kristy, who owns KLB Hairdressers in Te Awamutu, said clients concerned at regrowth came to her for help.
Auckland salons were helping existing clients with the right dye mix, so she followed suit.
The cost of the kits depends on the amount of hair and regrowth the client has but starts from $50. The kits have been successful, with lots of clients taking to KLB’s social media to show off their hair after using the kits.
“There are people not having a bar of this regrowth business, so they are really happy,” Kristy said.
For safety reasons, the colour kits are only available for existing clients. The salon knows how particular clients have their colours and what their hair is like.
“We have all our regular clients’ colours imprinted on our brains, we know we can do this safely,” she says.
“In our small community people just want to support you and just want to help, and every little bit counts. The support and all the wonderful messages coming through are so nice. You can work through the tough times when you’ve got the community support behind you.”
