Neon-World-Order: The Promised 80s Future at Last Place, Kirikiriroa Hamilton

Neon World Order was billed as a retro futuristic night, showcasing original bands inspired by the soundtracks of the 1980s.

Coming in I hear the classics like ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ by Simple Minds from the movie, The Breakfast Club and ‘Take on Me’ by A-ha. It was like being time warped to 80’s movies like ‘Footloose’, ‘Heathers’ and ‘Sixteen Candles’. The mood is fun and people are dressed to impress with their wind breakers, colourful wigs and sweatbands.

Star Control opened the show with Felix Lun playing the keytar and Omar Al-Hashimi on the drums. People danced along to the beat of their songs and some bopped their heads with a drink on their hand.

After an awesome performance by Star Control, TeamSquad from Raglan played next. Dressed to impress and with their synths warmed up, they ruled the show with their songs and covers. It was a head banging performance which  kept the audience hooked. Band members Ruth, Kane and Sam gave originality, but at the same time, a nod to the 80s.

The night was still young and the party kept on going. Brother Sister performed and everyone loved their songs, including crowd pleaser  ‘Space’.  The band interacted well with their audience especially Dave Thomson (synth and lead vocals) who talked about the relatable concepts of their songs. During the performance, people went crazy on the dance floor.

It was already late in the night but the energy was still high at Last Place because Jett Ranger played awesome remixes and people sang along with a remix of ‘I Want It That Way’ by the Backstreet Boys. Who wouldn’t be singing along with that classic song?

The Neon-World-Order was like a time machine and a party to remember.
