First outing for Superstock teams racing this weekend
Wintec | Te Pukenga sports journalist, and speedway commentator, Gabriel Bowen, is looking forward to the Superstock teams event.
Superstock Teams from around the North Island will descend on Huntly International Speedway, for another installation of the Pollock Cranes Superstock Teams Invitational this weekend.
There are 8 teams entered in the November 18 event, including defending champs Auckland All-Stars. The other 7 teams vying for honours are the Waikato Wanderers, Gisborne Giants, Kihikihi Kings, Wanganui Warriors, Rotorua Rebels, Baypark Busters and the Gisborne Giants development team.
The event will be Superstock fans first opportunity in the 2023/24 New Zealand Speedway season to see the famous ‘teams racing’, with teams sorting out who will represent their speedway in the Official Superstock Teams event in Palmerston North later on in the season in February.
The result last year saw the Auckland All-Stars defeat the Gisborne Giants in the 2022 final, which after delays due to weather and multiple rain-outs, was finally held in March 2023.
The 2022 teams event was affected by the delay with only 6 teams competing. A number of teams also suffered damage to the cars after a hectic end to the season, affecting their participation.
This years event is back on schedule and with 8 teams competing, it will be back to full strength.
The official format for the event is yet to be determined, but no matter what it turns out to be, it will have petrol heads excited and eager to see what mayhem will unfold on the night.
If you aren’t available to make it to the event, it will be livestreamed for a fee.
