Kiwi artist shares her talent: with lyrics to inspire

Young emerging singer and songwriter, Alyssa Hope, 24, talks about her first single ‘Loved by Me’ and highlights her mission to inspire people through music.

Music, often viewed as a form of entertainment, serves a profound ability to inspire and resonate with people on a global scale.

Alyssa Hope understands that words can harvest great power, she believes music and lyrics have the ability to change how people think or feel and with that knowledge, she aspires to be a good role model and hopes to spread a positive message with her music.

She has just released her new single ‘Loved by Me’ which she described as “kind of a love letter to myself, I went through a mentally, physically and emotionally abusive relationship when I was younger and it caused me to kind of bully myself internally, and it wasn’t until somebody else pointed out that I was bullying myself that it became apparent to me.”

Near the end of 2022 Alyssa started to toss around an idea of making a song that represented self-encouragement.

She wanted to write lyrics that touched on her personal experiences, struggles, and triumphs which could provide comfort and motivation to people who need it, especially to young women who feel trapped.

“I write from my heart, and I do that so I can influence others in a positive way, so when they listen to my music, they hopefully feel seen or heard.”

“I want to write things that change mindsets, something that’s powerful. In this day and age, we have so much music that is focused on drugs and sex and alcohol and I just wanted to change the music industry and make something positive,” said Alyssa

“There are so many people who write music that they don’t have a real connection to, they do this because they think it’s what should be in the industry or what’s popular but there’s no real meaning behind those lyrics,”

“People have this idea that entering the music industry is cool and it’s going to be fun, comparing it to what they see on social media but they’re not doing it for the right reasons.”

Aside from making music, Alyssa works as a house mother at an all-girls boarding school in Auckland – she attributes some of her inspiration to the young girls that she works with.

“I think especially working with teenagers, you see the way they talk to themselves, and you have so much love for them, you don’t want them to think so negatively about themselves, so writing something that they can sing and relate to is so important’

She says that the song for herself, has been like a self-proclaimed love letter, it also serves as an initiative to change some of the negative patterns in her own head.

‘Loved by Me’ is available to listen to online through Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, Apple Music and anywhere you can stream music. Alyssa Hope has an EP coming out later in the year and plans to create a music video in the near future. Find out more and keep up to date with her music via Instagram (@thealyssahope)
