A social dance put together by the Wintec Accommodation Services team for Wintec students has been cancelled after low ticket sales.

The Glitz and Glamour student ball was set to take place on Saturday 17 August 2024 and all Wintec students were welcome to attend.

Accommodation services administration manager, Sarah-Jane McLennan, said prior to organising the ball she received lots of feedback from students saying that it was an event that they would really like to happen.

“So we organised it, but unfortunately with such low ticket sales it’s just not feasible”

Ticket sales were $80 per head with early bird tickets available for $70. Cost was to be inclusive of music, kai, professional digital photography and an alcoholic and non-alcoholic cash bar.

Sarah said the decision to cancel the ball was made due to ticket sales. “As at 2 weeks prior to the ball we had sold 49 tickets. As you can imagine this is not enough to be able to run an event like this.”

After several years affected by covid then unsuccessful attempts to hold a ball in 2022 and 2023, McLennan said “At this stage I won’t be trying to organise it again”.
