Fit for Motherhood: Ellena’s Strength Within

A dedicated mother shares her story about balancing family life and a regular fitness regime.

At First Place Fitness, Kirikiriroa. A group of mums unite and come together each week to connect, have a laugh, and get a sweat in. Mother to four kids, Ellena Lmkr Lesulu, is one of the regulars.

With her busy life in motherhood, she drops her children at the kids club Monday to Thursday morning, allowing her to train four times a week.

Two of Ellena’s children attend school, and the other two girls come with her and get dropped off at the kids club for one hour while she has a workout. Her children are Kimmi, who is 4 years old, and Rofu, the youngest, who is 2 years old.

Ellena did originally join for the childcare aspect but she says, “I’ll still come to this gym even when my kids go to school, because they will be off to school soon and because I love the people here.”

Ellena describes this gym as “one big family and community,” as she has made some life-long friendships through being a member. She says that “the thing that makes this place feel like a community is that everyone is always supporting and helping each other.”

She said that her favorite part about the gym is “the members, the staff, especially the people that look after my girls, as they both feel very safe and comfortable amongst them.”.  Ellena spreads love and laughter all around this gym community and knows just exactly how to light up a room.
