Since a young age Ruan has been active and interested in the sports and fitness industry. He was a professional tennis player from a young age, then later became a professional boxing fighter.

Ruan’s interest in boxing was born when he first became a member at Ringside Boxing Centre in Kirikiriroa, New Zealand. As well as competing, he studied a degree in sport science at Wintec which provided a great way for Ruan to put his skills to practice within his boxing training.

Ruan said he then naturally progressed from his own boxing training to becoming a boxing coach. He accomplished his first coaching role at FightFit Boxing Centre, in South Melbourne.

Ruan was a big part of establishing FightFit South Melbourne during the 8 years of coaching he dedicated to this. That experience led to launching further FightFit Boxing Centres in Melbourne, being Collingwood in 2016 and Morrabin in 2020.

Ruan and his family decided to come back to his roots, moving his wife and two kids to Kirikiriroa, New Zealand to be closer to their family and friends. He took ownership of Ringside Boxing Centre, the origin of his passion for boxing and rebranded it to FightFit Hamilton. He said this move for his family and career is one of his proudest achievements.

Ruan is on-site full-time at FightFit and wears many hats including, being an owner, coach, personal trainer and front of house is just the least of it.

“A place where members love to train, and coaches love to teach.”

Ryan Kotze

Ruan has built FightFit Hamilton to become a strong gym centre that is unique to most and caters to many fitness needs. He describes FightFit as “a place where members love to train and coaches love to teach.”

Ruan described himself as “caring and empathetic”, however as a coach, he can bring his fighter’s stronger personality, depending on the goals and habits of his clients. His aims and aspirations for the future are to build FightFit up and grow the business to give him the flexibility to step away from being a full-time personal trainer and coach, and spend more quality time with family and friends.
