Established in 2022, the store is proudly owned by George Bennion-Lindsay who aims to serve his community and give back to the town that he loves. One side of the store is used for the barbershop, and the other is used to sell supplements and display products that are available to you.

The idea was sparked by George’s interest in physical fitness and health and how he could serve both his customers’ needs for health supplements and the love of looking good.

Before the store was established, the Tokoroa community didn’t have easy access to supplements despite having numerous gyms. People would have to either buy online or travel to other cities to get the products they need.

Since the opening of the shop, it has become an open hub for people of all ages to come and stop by to even just talk to the barbers and George when they need it. “We get people in here all the time that just like to talk to me and the boys, not necessarily about supplements or haircuts but just their lives and things they can’t talk about to anyone else.”

People find this a space safe and feel comfortable talking about aspects of their lives they can’t talk about anywhere else

Arryn-gene Haumaha, one of the barbers in the store explained that he and others are very grateful for the shop as it not only provides services for the people in Tokoroa but for other small towns nearby.

Another aspect of the shop is supporting people with employment and mentoring new trainees. George uses the shop as a way to give local barbers a place to come and work, and this has also given a lot of trainee barbers a chance to elevate their skills.

Many of the barbers recently finished high school and are still finding their way in life. George said there’s a negative narrative about the young men in Tokoroa “but for the guys here, I hope to guide them to keep the clear from that lifestyle. They get to come into this space and get to have creative control of their craft while also making a living. They’ve now become amazing role models for other young people here in town.”

“I have young barbers who are still learning to transition from school to the workforce. I aim to help them navigate their way through life the best I can as their boss. Role modelling and mentoring these barbers to keep them on track to steer them away from the negative.”

It seems like the community has gravitated towards the shop and has not left since. If you are ever in the area, come meet George and the guys for that fresh fade, energy boost or just a genuine conversation.
