Mr Mac, the author of the Doug the Digger book, travels throughout New Zealand educating kids through the book, its development and his life experiences.

He wants to make sure kids are ‘proud of who you are’, while teaching them the importance of balance through learning and having fun.

The digger gives the kids a chance to test their handling skills in a in a safe environment and encourages them to branch out and try new things.

“I make sure they know about safety before having a go and then we have a bit of fun.”

Mr Mac said he has always been a kinaesthetic learner and it is important to make sure that these kids get hands on experience, as well as in class learning.

“What I say is do a little talking and do a little doing.”
