I’ve lived in Hamilton for 14 years and had not been to Fieldays once until now, at the age of 20. But what an amazing experience it was, besides all of the mud of course.

There was so much to see, from shiny new tractors that were seeing muck for the first time to all of the different food trucks serving around the place. There is something for everyone at Fieldays, whether it is a group of friends or a family day out.

Fieldays is the place where you can create fun and different games with your friends, for example, my group made a tally system by going around counting all of the mullets that we stumbled across. Some of us even made it a point to find all the different check shirts that were being worn, specifically the classic red and black Swanndri shirt every kiwi farmer needs to have..

Making games up with your friends is one of the many reasons you should go with them, it’s also a good way to make lasting memories.

Many families were wearing their matching Swanndri shirts, watching the classic tractor pull or the traditional sport of competitive fence building.

“I haven’t been here for years so it’s a walk down memory lane,” says Laurie Riesterer, a long-time attendee, as we run into him at the end of our day. Laurie has been coming to Fieldays for many years, even competing in the fencing competition since the 70s.

This made me think how many of our grandparents have memories like this of Fieldays.

If you’re in the same boat and have never been to Fieldays before, maybe ask your grandparents and family or your friends to come with you in the following years and make some memories with this classic kiwi, annual event.
