The twins from Mangatangi near Thames are cow-crazy: last year Tamara even kept a notebook where she listed the names she has given to different calves.

“There’s Aimee, Tamara, Marilyn, Lee Ann, Allie, Nina, Jamie and Daniel Carter.”

They hadn’t met Rosie the Cow yet but the tractors they had seen impressed Mason because they are “big”.

Both are students at Mangatangi School and while they were enjoying the Fieldays Tamara didn’t think she should attend because she had a speech to prepare for class about the eating habits of another kind of critter.

“My speech is about the diets of rabbits.”

Tamara is also a young environmentalist, helping out with the Enviro School project at her school by keeping the playground and school grounds tidy.

The twins were glad they skipped school for the day and were enjoying the freebies –Mason waving a toy shovel.
