Hynds drawing crowds with top moto trials rider.

Farm infrastructure products company Hynds has hit on a real crowd puller for the stand this year.

They have NZ champion moto trials rider and Guiness World Record holder Jake Whitaker jump over obstacles – including Hynds employee Shaun Stock.

Stock says more than a 100 people at a time  gathered around the site to watch Jake Whitaker ride his motobike over challenging obstacles.

One such obstacle included confident Shaun himself, who lay down and let Jake jump over him.

Jake, 20, from Wellington has been jumping things, not usually people,  for eight  years now.

”It’s a bit of an unseen sport here in New Zealand, because all the events are held out the back of “Timbuctoo”, no one knows about it,” he said.

“In Europe it is really big, they bring it into the cities.”

Moto Trials is the sport of riding a motorbike on and over any difficult terrain without the rider putting their foot down. Courses include anything that might be a challenge to ride over, such as pipes, rocky creeks, rock boulders, fallen logs, banks, hills, or tree roots.

In 2007 Jake won his first New Zealand title and has been the NZ champion since.

Jake also holds the Guinness World Record for “the fastest time over 21 oil drums on a trials motor bike”.

Last year Jake did four months in Italy, riding for New Zealand.

He hopes to return if he gets sponsorship. In previous years Jake has fundraised enough money to get himself to big events.

“To do it properly it costs about $60,000 for a four-month season.”

Jake wants to start to do more shows such as the one at Fieldays, as that is where the money is in New Zealand and Australia.

The sporting side of Moto Trials has no prize money involved for Kiwis and Aussies.

Shaun thinks having him at the Hynds stand has been brilliant for his profile and has drawn the people in.

“It’s good to be behind Jake, a rider that’s getting no real recognition in New Zealand.”

Jake will be at the Hynds stand doing shows all week.
