Rachael Maher founded Paws 4 Life, a not-for-profit Waikato charity in 2010, working with the SPCA to rehome animals.

“Basically there is just a huge need for animals to go somewhere in the Waikato, and Waikato SPCA just physically don’t have enough room.”

However, she says Paws4Life differ from the SPCA because she will go the extra mile to help out those in need.

“I have just done a case where I lifted maybe eight dogs and a goat. The SPCA took the goat. The owners wanted to keep two dogs and two puppies so I secured donations to get those registered, desexed and microchipped.”

Miss Maher says the biggest issue in the community is desexing and microchipping pets.

“The message isn’t getting across about how important it is to desex and microchip animals, if people don’t, nothing will ever change.”

Paws 4 Life relies solely on donations from the public. They accept anything from money to cat litter and food.
