St John ambulance staff are getting into the farming spirit and patrolling the Fieldays on horseback.

St John paramedic Lisa Charman says although they are predominantly there in a  promotional role she finds they do a lot of “on the spot” work.

“Yesterday we had someone faint in front of us. We carry a lot of gear in our saddle bags.”

Lisa’s horse Bailey, who is owned by St John, has patrolled the Fieldays for around 10 years.

“This is probably his last year, he needs to retire, he’s getting a bit stiff.”

But Lisa says she will definitely be back next year.

“I love it, it’s a really positive environment and most people are happy to see us. It’s a great way to get around and we can see a lot more on horseback.”
